Elisabetta Cocciaretto pulled off a stunner on Tuesday, knocking out World No.3 Jessica Pegula from Wimbledon 2025. The Italian needed just 58 minutes to wrap up a commanding 6-2, 6-3 victory over Pegula, who had recently won the Bad Homburg Open with a dominant straight-sets win over five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek.<\/p>\n
It marked Cocciaretto\u2019s first win over a top-10 opponent since 2023 and served as sweet revenge for her loss to Pegula at Wimbledon 2023, where she went down 6-4, 6-0.<\/p>\n
\u201cI played with players like her before. Like Aryna (Sabalenka), Iga.. all of those players, you have to do the best you can on the court and take the little chances they give you. I tried to be more aggressive. Go for it. Don\u2019t think about losing or winning the point. Just do your best. I think I did a great job today,\u201d Cocciaretto said after her triumph.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old Cocciaretto will face World No.98 Katie Volynets in the second round.<\/p>\n
The Australian duo of Daria Kasatkina and Alex de Minaur produced strong performances to advance to the second round of the grass-court major.<\/p>\n
Kasatkina defeated Colombia\u2019s Emiliana Arango in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. She will next face Irina-Camelia Begu, who got past Kaja Juvan 7-6, 1-6, 6-3 in her opening-round match.<\/p>\n
De Minaur also made light work of his Spanish opponent, Roberto Carballes Baena, clinching a 6-1, 6-2, 7-6 victory. The Australian, who withdrew from last year\u2019s tournament in the quarterfinals, will be eager to make a deeper run this time.<\/p>\n
He will meet the winner of the first-round clash between Arthur Cazaux and Adam Walton in the second round.<\/p>\n
